Dr. Trulove offers several types of braces, including traditional braces, ceramic braces, and Invisalign®. Your current dental alignment, cosmetic concerns, and budget are a few of the factors that will be considered when determining the right type for you.
The Damon™ System is an innovative orthodontic treatment that uses clear brackets and wires to straighten your teeth. This option is self-litigating, meaning it eliminates the need for elastic ties by using a slide mechanism instead. For your convenience, it generally requires less adjustments.
Ceramic braces are subtle appliances comprised of clear brackets. As with traditional braces, the wires will exert a constant, but gentle, force to realign your teeth. Ceramic braces can be highly effective. However, since they are more fragile than metal, they are not suitable for all patients.
Invisalign offers the most discreet treatment option. To begin, Dr. Trulove will use advanced computer simulation to design a set of customized trays. These trays will fit directly over your dental arches, but since they are made of clear, ultra-thin plastic, they will be virtually invisible.
Invisalign Teen® is virtually the same as traditional Invisalign®, but there are modifications that may make this the optimal treatment for your child. First, it comes with up to six free replacement aligners. Each tray also has a blue dot that will fade when it is time to switch to a new tray.
If you have severe bite misalignment, Dr. Trulove may suggest orthognathic surgery. He takes a conservative approach and will only recommend jaw surgery if the problem cannot be corrected with orthodontia alone. Dr. Trulove will refer you to an oral surgeon, and will coordinate the entire treatment.
While many children do not receive braces until their teens, younger children can often benefit from orthodontia. We recommend scheduling an exam for your child no later than age seven. Detecting alignment issues early can often reduce their severity and result in less extensive treatment.
Once your braces come off, it will take some time for your teeth to adjust to their new position. Wearing a retainer is the best way to maintain your treatment results, as it prevents your teeth from shifting. We offer several types of retainers, including clear plastic and fixed bonded appliances.
Dr. Trulove and his staff go above and beyond! Simply put, they are the BEST.
