Dr. Trulove offers several types of braces. Through a comprehensive consultation, he can help you choose the most effective option. Treatments include traditional braces, ceramic braces, and Invisalign®. Your current dental alignment, cosmetic concerns, and budget are a few of the factors that will be considered when determining the right type for you. Regardless of the type of braces you choose, he will work hard to ensure a lifelong healthy smile.
The Damon™ System is an innovative orthodontic treatment that uses clear brackets and wires to straighten your teeth. This option is self-litigating, meaning it eliminates the need for elastic ties by using a slide mechanism instead. For your convenience, it generally requires less adjustments.
Ceramic braces are the most popular option for adults seeking orthodontic treatment. These subtle appliances are comprised of clear brackets. As with traditional braces, the wires will exert a constant, but gentle, force to realign your teeth. Ceramic braces can be highly effective. However, since they are more fragile than metal, they are not suitable for all patients.
Invisalign® offers the most discreet treatment option. When you choose Invisalign®, Dr. Trulove will use advanced computer simulation to design a set of aligner trays. These trays will fit directly over your dental arches, but since they are made of clear, ultra-thin plastic, they will be virtually invisible. In about the same amount of time needed for traditional braces, Invisalign® can dramatically improve your smile.
Invisalign Teen® is virtually the same as traditional Invisalign®, but there are a few modifications that may make this the optimal treatment for your child. First, it comes with up to six free replacement aligners. Each tray also has a blue dot that will fade when it is time to switch to a new tray. Invisalign Teen® is a great option for adolescents since it can enhance both their smiles and their self-esteem.
If you have severe bite misalignment, Dr. Trulove may suggest orthognathic surgery. He takes a conservative approach and will only recommend jaw surgery if the problem cannot be corrected with orthodontia alone. Dr. Trulove will refer you to an oral surgeon, and will coordinate the entire treatment. Along with his partner surgeons, he has streamlined the process for more convenient care with a faster recovery.
While many children do not receive braces until their teens, younger children can often benefit from orthodontia. We recommend scheduling an exam for your child no later than age seven. Detecting alignment issues early can often reduce their severity and result in less extensive treatment.
Up to 30% of Dr. Trulove’s patients are adults. As an adult, a symmetrical smile can enhance your appearance, oral health, and self-esteem. Orthodontic treatment can also benefit you if you previously wore braces, but your teeth have since shifted. We recognize that cosmetics are a big concern for adults, which is why we offer subtler options, such as ceramic braces and Invisalign®.
Once your braces come off, it will take some time for your teeth to adjust to their new position. Wearing a retainer is the best way to maintain your treatment results, as it prevents your teeth from shifting. We offer several types of retainers, including clear plastic and fixed bonded appliances.
